Sensitive Teeth
Dental sensitivity is primarily due to irritation of the "pulp" or living part of the tooth. It is a symptom of many varied causes.
Sensitivity is your body's way of telling you something is not quite right and you should tell your dentist sooner rather than later. The most common causes of sensitivity are
- Decay - either new cavities or failing/inadequate restorations.
- Irritation from the build up of bacteria that cause gum disease. These bacteria secrete toxins which will irritate the roots of your teeth.
- Enamel wear and tear from grinding, excessive brushing, acidic drinks.
- Crack teeth or roots
- Poor fitting partial dentures
- Infection of the "pulp" or living part of the the tooth.
- Incorrect "occlusion" or chewing pattern, often due to loss of teeth and drifting/tilting of the remaining teeth
Early diagnosis and treatment will in most cases allow simpler treatment at a lower fee with an increased success rate!
